Ask any group to fold 50 dumplings together and watch what happens — laughter, competition, collaboration, and a shared feast.
Folding dumplings requires patience, coordination, and healthy competition. It's an extremely social activity that gets everyone working together immediately.
Chinese New Year is one of the world's biggest celebrations. Marking it as a team is a meaningful gesture — especially for multicultural, international teams.
Our Chinese cuisine specialist teaches wok technique, noodle preparation, and the art of the perfect dumpling fold — all in a professional kitchen with Miele appliances.
Dumpling folding is one of the few team activities where every single person contributes something visible to the final result. You can't hide at the back; you can't delegate to the extravert. Everyone folds, everyone learns the pleat, everyone sees their dumplings steam and emerge glossy on the plate.
The repetition creates rhythm. After the first clumsy attempt, people relax. Laughter starts when someone's dumpling bursts or when a finance director finally nails the seven-pleat fold. The task is simple enough that conversation flows naturally, but demanding enough that it feels like an accomplishment. That combination — low stakes, high satisfaction — is rare in corporate team building.
Chinese New Year adds cultural weight. It's not an invented theme; it's a festival celebrated by a fifth of humanity, and many Luxembourg teams include colleagues with family ties to the Lunar calendar. Marking it together signals inclusion in a way that feels genuine, not performative.
Your team arrives at the Kachatelier studio to find workstations set with bamboo steamers, rolling pins, and bowls of fresh filling — typically pork and chive, or a vegetarian mix of shiitake, cabbage, and ginger. Our Chinese cuisine specialist demonstrates the fold: how to hold the wrapper, where to place the filling, how to crimp the edge so it holds under steam.
Then everyone folds. Thirty dumplings, fifty, sometimes more. The room fills with the sound of rolling pins on wood, the smell of sesame oil, the sight of wonky first attempts and increasingly confident pleats. People compare techniques, steal tricks from the person next to them, photograph their best specimens.
While the dumplings steam, the chef moves to the wok station. High heat, fast hands: stir-fried greens with garlic, sweet-and-sour prawns or tofu, egg-fried rice tossed in a way that makes the grains dance. A few brave volunteers take the wok handle under supervision. Everyone else watches, asks questions, smells the soy and rice wine hitting hot oil.
You eat what you've made, family-style, passing plates and tasting each other's folds. If you've requested it, the room is dressed with red lanterns and gold banners — small touches that turn a cooking class into a festival.
We see two types of bookings: leadership teams and people managers looking for a meaningful January or February event that isn't another strategy offsite, and HR or inclusion leads wanting to celebrate Lunar New Year in a way that involves everyone, not just a lunch or an email.
The format suits mixed-seniority groups because the task is universal — a partner folds dumplings the same way an intern does. It works for introverts because the activity gives you something to do with your hands while you talk. It suits remote-first teams visiting Luxembourg for a quarterly gathering, and it suits locally based teams who've done the usual venues and want something tangible.
If your team includes colleagues from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, or Korea, they'll recognise the techniques and often become informal coaches. If your team is entirely European, the event becomes a cultural bridge. Both dynamics work.
Location and access: The Kachatelier is in Windhof, around 20 minutes by car or taxi from Luxembourg city centre, with free on-site parking. If guests are travelling by train to Luxembourg Gare, we can advise on taxi share or group transport.
Group size and pricing: We host 8–40 guests. Pricing starts from €2,900 total for an intimate group of 8–10, scaling to €6,700 for a full-venue booking of 36–40. Mid-size groups of 16–20 start from €4,200. For exact pricing tailored to your headcount, dietary mix, and any add-ons like decorations or drinks, request a quote.
Duration: Plan for 2.5 to 3 hours — enough time to learn, cook, fold at a relaxed pace, and eat together without rushing.
Dietary requirements: We adapt every element. Vegetarian dumplings use mushroom and tofu; vegan versions replace egg in wrappers and wok dishes. Gluten-free guests receive rice-wrapper alternatives and tamari in place of soy. Halal, kosher, and allergy requirements are handled in the planning stage — share your list when you book.
Booking process: Submit your preferred dates (we recommend booking 4–6 weeks ahead for January and February, as Lunar New Year weeks fill early). You'll hear back within four hours with availability, a tailored quote, and a draft menu. Once confirmed, we handle ingredients, logistics, and any special requests.
We've run corporate cooking classes in Luxembourg since 2019 for over 200 companies, including Amazon, Deloitte, and the European Central Bank. Post-event surveys average 4.9 out of 5. Teams return because the chefs are real specialists — not actors reading scripts — and because every detail, from dietary planning to timing, is handled by the same person who runs the event.
Chinese New Year is one of our most requested formats between mid-January and mid-February. It works as a standalone celebration, as part of a diversity and inclusion programme, or as a warm, collaborative start to a strategy quarter. No hype, no filler — just dumplings, woks, and a team that leaves full and connected.
